It’s completely natural to have questions before starting hypnotherapy. Most of my clients do.
You might be wondering if you’ll stay in control, how many sessions you’ll need, or whether online therapy works as well as face-to-face.
This page answers the most common questions people ask me before booking. My aim is to reassure you, clear away any worries, and give you a clear picture of what to expect. If you don’t see your own question here, just get in touch — I’ll be happy to answer it personally.
Got questions about hypnotherapy, online sessions, or MP3 downloads?
Here you’ll find simple answers on how my in-person and online sessions — and optional recordings — can help you feel calmer, sleep better, and make lasting changes. If you don’t see your question here, just ask.
1) What exactly is hypnotherapy — will I be “out of control”?
No. Hypnotherapy is a natural, focused state of relaxation where you stay aware and in charge. You can open your eyes, speak, or stop at any time. It’s like guided concentration that helps your mind change unhelpful patterns more easily.
2) Is this the same as stage hypnosis?
No. This is modern, clinical, client-centred therapy. There are no tricks, gimmicks, or performances — just a calm, confidential process designed to help you reach the result you want.
3) Does the NHS recognise hypnotherapy?
While hypnotherapy isn’t routinely offered everywhere, it is acknowledged as a helpful approach in certain cases, and some NHS services now make referrals.
4) How many sessions will I need & Whats The Cost?
Everyone is different, but many clients notice significant change in 2–4 sessions. Talking therapies often run in longer blocks (e.g. 10–20+ sessions) because they work differently. Hypnotherapy often creates change faster by working directly with the subconscious patterns that drive thoughts, urges, and reactions.
My fees are £120 for the initial session which is longer as the extra time is crucial for getting to know you properly and setting a solid foundation for your progress, making sure you get the most out of our first meeting. Then £90 per appointment. I don't lock you into a block booking of sessions which you may not need. Quit Smoking/Vaping programme & Corporate Wellness prices are on request
5) What happens in a session?
We begin with a relaxed chat about what you want to change and how you’ll know it’s working. I explain everything so you feel comfortable. Then I guide you through tailored hypnotherapy (and, where helpful, NLP and coaching). You remain alert and in control, and most people describe the experience as deeply calming.
6) Are online sessions as effective as in-person?
Yes. Many clients choose online sessions via Zoom or Teams to save travel time and to work from a familiar, quiet space at home. The results are the same as in-person sessions when you prepare properly.
7) How should I prepare for a session?
Find a private, comfortable space where you won’t be interrupted. Use headphones if possible, silence notifications, and have a supportive chair or sofa where you can sit back and relax.
8) Do you see children or teens?
Yes — I work with young people aged 10 and up. Sessions are gentle, encouraging, and age-appropriate. I’m fully DBS checked and experienced at helping with confidence, anxiety, sleep, exam stress, and mild phobias. The parent/guardian will be asked to wait in a nearby room during the session to help their child feel at ease knowing they are close by.
9) Can hypnotherapy help with anxiety, stress, sleep, habits, smoking/vaping, weight, phobias, pain, or confidence?
Yes. These are some of the most common reasons people see me. We focus on the outcome you want, and build practical tools you can use in daily life. (For medical conditions, I may ask that you also stay under your GP’s care.)
10) Are there people who shouldn’t use hypnotherapy?
If you’re living with psychosis or certain personality disorders, hypnotherapy isn’t recommended; please speak to your GP. If you have epilepsy or have been advised to avoid guided trancework, check with your medical team before starting. Your safety is always the priority.
11) What’s the difference between personal sessions and MP3 downloads?
Personal sessions are one-to-one and fully tailored — ideal when you want focused change and professional guidance. MP3 downloads are guided audios you can use anytime to support calm, sleep, confidence, cravings, and more. Many clients use both: sessions for change, recordings for day-to-day support.
12) How often should I use an MP3 — and what if I fall asleep?
Once or twice daily for at least 14 days is a good rule of thumb. It’s fine if you drift off — your subconscious still registers the suggestions — though staying awake but deeply relaxed can add extra benefit.
13) Can I listen while driving or working?
No. Only use recordings when you can sit or lie down safely with your eyes closed and your attention on the audio.
14) How quickly will I notice results?
Some people feel lighter or clearer after one session; others notice steady improvements over several sessions. Factors include your goal, readiness for change, and whether you use your simple between-session tools. We’ll agree clear measures so you can track progress.
15) Is everything confidential?
Yes. Your sessions are private and confidential. I follow professional codes of ethics; I’m accredited, insured, You wont be coming to a room in my house where other people maybe, my studio is calm, clean, bright & confidential.
16) Do you offer bespoke recordings?
Yes. I can create a custom MP3 specifically for your goal and preferences. We can do this from a short briefing, or after a live online session for even deeper personalisation.
17) Do you guarantee results?
No therapist ethically can. What I can promise is a modern, respectful, and evidence-based approach — plus clear tools you can use between sessions. My verified 5-star reviews reflect how many clients experience fast, lasting change with this method.
18) What if I’m already in counselling, CBT, or under medical care?
That’s fine. Hypnotherapy can complement other treatments. If you’re under a clinician, I may ask your consent to collaborate for your safety and best outcome.
19) Is hypnotherapy suitable for corporate wellbeing and high-performance roles?
Yes. I regularly support professionals, leaders, performers, healthcare staff, educators, police and military personnel to improve calm, focus, sleep, resilience, and performance under pressure. Programmes can be delivered one-to-one or as group workshops, in person or online.
20) How do I get started?
Book a free, no-obligation call. We’ll talk through your goals, answer any final questions, and map the simplest path to your result.
